Use of artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence in almost all our videos. This page explains how we label it on the site and who is responsible for the texts we publish.

Labels on videos

Every video on this site that was generated or modified with artificial intelligence carries a label: the AI icon published by the European Commission and a short text in the language of the page. You find it on the cover and under the player, and it stays visible while the video plays.

  • EU icon: AI GENERATEDAI-generated: the images of the video were produced with artificial intelligence.
  • EU icon: AI MODIFIEDAI-modified: real footage or images where we added or changed elements with artificial intelligence.

Under the player a sentence says what was generated or modified. In the video with Andrea Ravo Mattoni, for example: “Characters and objects added with artificial intelligence. The footage of the artist is real.”

The 3D animations we model and animate ourselves contain no AI-generated images, so they carry no label.

We do this under Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 on artificial intelligence, which since 2 August 2026 requires content generated or modified with AI to be disclosed.

People in the videos

The recognisable people who appear in the videos where we use artificial intelligence have given us their written consent.

Texts on the site and in the magazine

We also use artificial intelligence for article drafts and for the translations into the six languages of the site. Before publication every text is read by Luca Macaluso, who checks facts and numbers.
